BALI 12HR | RUN FOR A PLASTIC FREE AMED
(INDONESIA 2018)
On less than 5 miles of training, 12 sweat-soaked hours of aggressive hills laid bare the gritty resilience found beneath the ideals of perfect preparation. Intense sun, freedivers out of water, and thoroughly bemused Balinese farmers.
In the wake of Tropical Cyclone Josie, 32 runners headed into the brutal trails of Viti Levu’s rugged interior to take part in Fiji’s first ultramarathon: a story of knee-deep mud, extreme heat and never-ending hills.
Deep in Fiji's remote interior, cut off by landslides and flooding, I came across the small indigenous settlement of Cirisobu. A land of spectacular landscapes and unparalleled hospitality, this is the aboriginal heart of Viti Levu.
